Step 1: Upload
The Upload step.
Procedure
Select New analysis in the sidebar or in the header.
If the file is an STL file, select its unit under STL units: mm, cm, m or in. STEP files carry their own units.
Drag the file onto Drop CAD here, or browse, or select the area and choose the file. You can choose several files; they are treated as one assembly.
Wait while the file is processed. The progress bar shows the stage: reading, tessellation, topology checks and repair. All of this runs in your browser; the file is not uploaded to a server.
When the file has been read, the wizard moves to the Geometry step.
Accepted files
Format |
Notes |
|---|---|
STEP, STP |
Preferred. Units are read from the file. Solids keep their identity, so control surfaces can be assigned. |
STL |
Each closed shell is treated as a part. Choose the unit before uploading. |
Errors
- Choose STEP, STP or STL files.
The file has another extension. Export the model as STEP or STL.
- OpenCascade could not read this STEP file for repair.
The STEP file is damaged or uses an unsupported schema. Export it again from CAD.
- Automatic repair could not identify separate CAD bodies safely.
A body is not a closed solid. Sew the affected part in CAD and export it as a solid.
- The geometry check could not finish.
The check failed in the browser. You can continue; the simulation service checks the surfaces again before meshing.
