Run Types

The name of a run tells what it is. These names are used in the Runs tab, the coefficients table, the Activity page and the report.

Name

Run

α 4°

A run of the polar at α 4°.

α 2° · control baseline

The neutral run on the control mesh; control increments are measured from it.

α 2° · roll +10°

A control run: the roll controls (for example the ailerons) deflected +10°. pitch and yaw are the pitch and yaw controls; flaps the flaps.

α 2° · β 5°

A sideslip run.

α 2° · roll rate

A rotating-frame run for the roll damping (also pitch rate, yaw rate).

α 2° · cruise power

The α 2° case with the cruise propeller turning.

α 2° · hover

The α 2° case with the lift rotors turning, holding the weight.

α 8° · unsteady

An unsteady (URANS) run of the polar.

α 2° · β -5° · symmetry check

A validation check: negative sideslip, compared with +5°.

α 6° · pitch +10° · higher-angle control check

A validation check: a control at a higher angle, compared with α 2°.

Accuracy checks

Speed check

α 2° at 80% of the speed. Shows how much the Reynolds number changes the loads.

Larger domain

α 2° in a domain 1.5 times larger. Shows how much the far-field boundary affects the loads.

Their results are kept separate from the polar and shown in the report’s Verification section.
